Maruti Ritz Launched By Maruti Suzuki

Maruti Ritz is a premium hatchback launched in India by the country's leading car maker Maruti Suzuki. It is the same car which is sold under the brand name of Splash all over the world. Splash, launched in 2008, was jointly developed by Suzuki Motor Corporation and Opel.

Maruti Suzuki launched Ritz in India in May 2009. The car is available in both petrol and diesel versions. The car was manufactured at the Gurgaon manufacturing plant of the company. Ritz competes with Honda Jazz and Skoda Fabia in the Indian auto market.

Ritz was the first Indian car to comply with the Bharat Stage-IV emission norms to come into effect from April 2010. The car has 85% local components. The car met with success in the Indian car market. Maruti was able to sell 8, 000 units of Ritz per month within months of launch of the car. The car has increased the share of Maruti in the premium compact car market in India.

By January 2010, Maruti Suzuki started to export Ritz to South East Asian markets. The company shipped 500 units of the car to Indonesia in the month. The company is already shipping its other car A-Star to 44 international markets, including Europe.

Maruti Ritz has overall length of 3715 mm, overall width of 1680 mm and overall height of 1620 mm. The car, with ground clearance of 170 mm, has kerb weight of 1110 kg. The 5-door car can sit 5 persons. The 1248 cc engine of the car delivers maximum power of 75ps@4000 rpm and maximum torque of 190Nm@2000 rpm. The car offers mileage of 18 km/liter on high ways, 13.5 km/liter on city roads and overall it offers mileage of 14.4 km/liter.

As of now, Maruti sells 5 versions of Ritz in both petrol and diesel versions in the Indian market. These include Ritz Lxi, Ritz Vxi, Ritz Ldi, Ritz Zxi and Maruti Ritz Vdi. The base model Ritz Lxi is available at around Rs. 3.9 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi), while the high-end Maruti Ritz Vdi is sold at around Rs. 4.9 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi).
